Opening the admin panel

Changing the IP address

The default IP address can be found easily on the official website of the router brands. That is why you should always change your default IP address so that nobody can use it to access your router. You can change the second-last section to a random number between 1 and 254. For example, you can change it to or you can also change the entire subnet.

Set the DHCP server mode to disable

You should disable this setting because by doing so, every time device is trying to connect it will need to be assigned a static IP address. For example, if you have 10 devices that you usually connect to your router then set the DHCP server to give out only 10 IP addresses. By doing so, 11th device won’t get an IP address to enter into the network.

Checking activity and updates

You should frequently check your activity to know your network activity information like when your network was used, for how long your network was used, which devices are using your network, or the used bandwidth, etc. Using this feature you will know if an unknown person uses your network. Some routers also provide the feature to send a mail or SMS to alert users for these types of conditions. If your router has this feature then you should definitely use it. Apart from checking your activity log you should also keep updated the firmware of your router. By updating the firmware of your router you will get additional features and security if there is any bug in the current firmware.

This feature allows you to set up a guest network for visitors or temporary users. By setting up the guest network on your router you give temporary access to your guest or visitors. You should only enable this feature when you really need it because with this feature you will allow the guest users for internet usage.
